More about Jonathan (PJ)
Jonathan’s journey at Green School Bali as a founding teacher ignited his passion for nature-based education, integrating academic rigour, leadership development, and personal growth for students. With a background in university lecturing and teaching diverse curricula such as International Baccalaureate and Cambridge programs, Jonathan is dedicated to fostering holistic learning experiences.
His approach emphasises real-world learning over traditional testing and grading methods. Jonathan advocates for hands-on education in natural settings to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical skills acquisition. He believes this approach, coupled with research, writing, and technological proficiency, empowers young learners to thrive.
“For me, nature-based learning fosters systems thinking in sciences and promotes discovery-based approaches across history, philosophy, language, and the arts,” Jonathan explains. “Breaking down barriers between disciplines excites students about learning through direct experience in the natural world.”
Jonathan is enthusiastic about the transformative power of hands-on activities like building, designing, farming, and music-making. “These activities teach us invaluable skills and empower us to achieve tangible results,” he emphasises. Above all, Jonathan champions the potential of individuals and believes in the limitless possibilities when faith and determination intersect.
